26-jun-19 - The Injury and The Plan

I got to feeling really down in the dumps last night over this left hand injury so I'll summarize the problem and see if I can't deal with it positively and realistically.

The swelling has gone down some but not much:
Right now I can't open the jar of Clausen Pickles, I don't think it is safe to drive yet, especially on this mountain road (CA 299), maybe in a day or two, and it is hard to do things in the RV, not impossible, but not easy. There is no one to help, it's just me here in the mountains.

Some sharp pains and injuries I didn't feel until the swelling went down, but that's all part of the healing process. The doctor had verified no serious break and recovery should be expected.

Some very light range of motion exercises and light massage, avoid straining further, especially the wrist, guitar, mostly right hand strumming (bought some light weight picks - Dunlops .60 and .46 mm). VERY IMPORTANT that I get back to reasonable guitar work, the whole point and purpose of this RV Expedition was and is to advertise the Fretmath channel by playing the best guitar I can, whatever the limitations.

Playing chords is the concern.

There's a good chance this new wrist injury will add problems to the previous thumb injury and of course I am getting older with attendant problems of age all the time. It is too early to tell but it should be approached positively and I will have to work on that.

So let me clarify Fretmath to myself once again and what I want to accomplish.

Math can be a good way to promote clear thinking. We are always making assumptions and jumping to conclusions, That is common, real life, naive, GAME THEORY and what differentiates us from computers (so far). Some practice and understanding of math provides us with a way to verify our assumptions, and clarify our approach. It is only one way to do this, but it is a good way.

IF!!! it is not forced down the throat with threats of failure and classifications that have little to do with our ability to function in this life. It should be understood as useful and interesting, maybe fun sometimes but I wouldn't push that as much as "useful".

Those with greater abilities in the subject can later on compete among themselves for whatever rewards they may find, but no one should be forced to learn more math than they can understand and put to use (J.R. Pierce). AI can do the algorithms better than any of us we do not need to train mechanical human beings. We could however, use more people with some rationality in their thinking judging by the absurdities of current media and politics.

Fretmath, and its predecessor Musemath, starting in 1977, were not expected to take more than a year or two but the difficulties before the Internet and then the possibilities which suddenly opened up with the Internet have extended things to the present time. I've been reviewing the vids, they are ok. At my age, near now to 73, with no one else to be concerned with, I think to continue as before.

No change in plans, somewhat more limited in carrying them out perhaps, perhaps not, but the most positive approach I can take given the realities, seems best.

Some more guitar, calls to AC places in Redding (nobody here wants to deal with Motorhomes), make another salad, stop eating ice cream and feeling sorry for myself.

The math here may help, if not made annoying. Not much but the best I can do.
