Ancient Redwoods RV Park
Humboldt County California

Three important things
1.Mount Shasta
2 California Route 299
3.Giant Redwoods

I'm still undecided about what to do next with the RV which cannot be registered in CA but since I have a temporary sticker for the month of June and it was approaching 100 deg F. in Yreka, I decided to head over to the coast where it is much cooler and where the large Redwood Trees are. Maybe I can sort things out there.

Just south of Yreka along the US Route I-5 is Mount Shasta already quite close, showing itself as soon as the foothills are cleared. This was my second drive on this road and its appearance was even better, this time the snow blended into the clouds. Less than an hour and your pretty close to the base of the mountain no pictures from that close though because I was driving. I add it to the places I'd like to see again. Of all the inspiring mountain images I've seen perhaps only Mount Fuji is more so, but I have more travelling to do.

Then, DISASTER - roadwork along the hilly, mountainous terrain of the I-5 near Lake Shasta - perhaps 20 miles of stop and go, stop and slow, stop and slower yet - mostly uphill - maybe 2 hrs delay? It turned out to be a much longer drive to the coast than I had thought.

Next the CA 299, not till the next day and again maps and Garmin Navigator were indicating a two hour drive by milage. But it is a windy mountain road right through the rugged Klamath/Salmon Mountains and follows the Trinity River for a good 40 miles or so,The road was in generally good condition and a scenic pleasure to drive, sometimes a bit slowly uphill but no stress on the engine. Stopped at Douglas City, Weaverville, and Willowcreek, each unique. Lots of Bikers, Rafters, Campers etc.

Reached the coast by 2pm and the Ancient Redwoods RV Park by 3pm I've been visiting the groves and trails etc. today. Well worth the trip, weather perfect, cool at night mild during the day

I'm a bit under the weather running a slight fever, My brother's in the hospital, serious, and the temporary filling for the root canal is failing. Guitar has been pretty good and I need it at this point
