3-jul-19 Lake Tahoe

Too late, too tired for much typing, Lake Tahoe is beyond words anyway.

Visited on Jul 1, these pics are from Nevada Beach - Georgeous, drove around the Lake, the East side is developed, touristy, and crowded The West side is much less developed, lots of park land and the incredible Emerald Bay of which no pics because the drive is something of a non-stop (for a motorhome) windy, sharp drop off,  kind of road and I was in something of a continuous caravan of cars. Last time I visited it was May and certainly less crowded.

All beautiful, magical kind of place. Stayed overnight at Montebleau Casino Parking Lot D - sleeping not allowed but I got in a nap, wasn't disturbed and at 4 am, ate at the cafe and went over to the Hard Rock Casino and lost $20 so I figure I earned my overnight. The breakfast burrito lasted 3 days, worth the $13.

Stayed here on Jul 2nd, about 10-15 miles north of the lake, saw it on the way in.

Met Mark who runs Jeep tours, the Rubicon in Tahoe and Moab Jeep Tours in Utah, his website is www.rubicontrail.com worth the visit to see what he does, good story behind it as well. We discussed jeeps, coffee, trailers and the meaning of life, etc. Good to do with someone who lives life like that.

He really got me going on Yellowstone, said not to be missed.

Also met his two German Shepherds, Batman and Panzer -  great dogs!

Bear country, food went in bear proof lock boxes, had a bear about 8 inches from my face on the other side of the tent about 20 years ago in Sequoia. Bear breath from that close is unforgettable. RV is safer but if they really want in, who knows, there were plenty of tent campers and you take common sense precautions otherwise you don't get to enjoy this great scenery.

Now in Winnemucca NV drive was good not too hot very pleasant weather right now at New Frontier RV Park.

A horde of Mormon Crickets covered the parking lot of the Rest Area 20 miles west of Winnemucca, apparently the tail end of the procession, not enough food left for them and turning aggressive and cannibalistic. Some of them hop at you. A sight to see but not a pleasant sight. I'm told they don't fly, just keep hopping along.

Tomorrow, Salt Lake City 360 miles.
